Houston partner Donald Brodsky was quoted in a November 2, 2009, American Lawyer "AmLaw Daily" article, "Baker Botts, Baker Hostetler on $4.5 Billion Oil Deal."
According to the article, Denbury Resources Inc, an oil exploration and production company based in Plano, Texas, has reached an agreement to buy rival firm Encore Acquisition Co, based in Fort Worth, for $4.5 billion. The merger will create one of North America' largest oil production and exploration companies.
Brodsky, who has represented Denbury since 1996, led the Baker Hostetler team which represented Denbury in the deal. The Baker team included Robert Weible, John Gherlein, Phillip Callesen, Gary Alletag, Edward Ptaszek, Georgeann Peters, John English, Robert Shearer, Judy Gechman and Seth Freedman.
Brodsky said that more mergers may be in the offing for oil and gas. "There is buzz around further consolidation," he said, "and when I'm asked if it's less likely or more likely, I go with more."
