Akron Beacon Journal: Fair Finance Owner Holds Expensive Cars, Art

Cleveland partner Brian Bash was quoted in a May 11, 2010, Akron Beacon Journal article, "Fair Finance Owner Holds Expensive Cars, Art."

Bash is the court-appointed trustee in the bankruptcy of Fair Finance, a 76-year-old Akron, Ohio, based investment company which ceased doing business after an FBI raid in November 2009 with over $200 million owed on investment certificates. The focus of the article was Bash's recent monthly status report in federal bankruptcy court.

According to the article, Bash has his eyes on expensive cars and artwork that he believes were purchased with money from the under-investigation finance and loan business. The possible value is in the millions—the same with the art, primarily paintings purchased by Fair Finance co-owner Timothy Durham. Bash is looking into the sale of more than $1 million in antique and exotic cars as he works to preserve assets for the bankrupt business.

Additionally, according to the article, in what would be a significant move in the bankruptcy proceeding, Bash said he also expects to shortly have all the assets of Fair Holdings, which is Fair Finance's Ohio corporate parent, and those of DC Investments—the Indiana corporate parent—assigned over. "My view right now is, I've heard them [Fair Holdings and DCI's representatives] wanting to cooperate but I haven't seen the actions follow the words," Bash said.
