Chicago Daily Law Bulletin: Kamradt Quoted about Part-Time Women Lawyers

Baker Hostetler partner Tara Goff Kamradt was quoted in the article, “About 70 Percent of the Part-Time Lawyers are Women,” which appeared in Volume: 157 Issue: 12 of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin on January 18, 2011.

According to the story, many large law firms offer part-time schedules for lawyers, but only 6.4 percent—mostly women—worked reduced schedules in 2010. According to the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), last year 70 percent of lawyers working part-time were women and, among women lawyers overall, 13.6 percent were working part-time.

In Chicago, 73 percent of part-time partners are women and 87.5 percent of part-time associates are women, according to NALP.

Kamradt, president of the Coalition of Women’s Initiatives in Law Firms, said the NALP report is not surprising. “I think the report reflects the challenges of integrating life and work. For firms who wish to retain talented lawyers, predominately talented women lawyers, this is a necessary modification to a traditional private practice structure.”
