An April 2010 speech given by Washington, D.C., partner Dr. Elliot Feldman appeared in the September 28, 2010, posting of China Textile Magazine. This weblog is part of the 360Fashion Network, a compilation of online publications and blogs covering the fashion industry worldwide.
The speech was originally presented to the American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China (AmCham-China) during the “China: Growth Engine for the Next Decade” program in Beijing. In his remarks, Dr. Feldman highlighted potential complications with trade relations between the United States and China. “There is consensus in Washington that relations between China and the United States will get worse before they get better,” Dr. Feldman said, noting “There are many issues, most related only marginally, if at all, to trade.”
He went on to explore economic, social, political and even global challenges that have affected trade relations between the two countries, making a number of practical suggestions for protecting private sector interests in this environment.
“There are many practical things American companies doing business in China can do to help themselves... The corporate world does not control its own destiny, but it need not be tossed without recourse in a turbulent sea,” he concluded. At Baker Hostetler, Dr. Feldman leads the firm's international trade practice and is a regular contributor to the practice’s China-U.S. Trade Law blog.
