InCommand Magazine: 5 Steps For Social Media

Baker Hostetler Columbus partner Daniel J. Guttman authored an article, “5 Steps for Social Media,” which was published in the January/February 2011 issue of InCommand Magazine.

The article focuses on managing workplace social media. Guttman lists five important ways executives can protect the organization’s reputation and minimize legal risks posed by posting, sharing and tweeting.

  1. Create a policy—Decide upon and communicate your organization’s overall approach.
  2. Put it in writing—Draft a written policy that clearly articulates your organization’s expectations.
  3. Communicate the policy—Communicate with and train employees on the organization’s policies and obtain written acknowledgement that they understand the policies.
  4. Be consistent—Be consistent in the way you manage social media and enforce your policies.
  5. Understand the media—Read and monitor the terms and conditions of any approved social networking site.
