Law360: NYC Prosecutor Joins Baker's White Collar Group

New York litigation partner Jonathan New was profiled in the June 8, 2010, Law360 article, "NYC Prosecutor Joins Baker's White Collar Group."

New, who was most recently an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, joined Baker Hostetler's 120-attorney New York office in late May. Commenting on the addition of New to the firm, John Carney, co-leader of the firm's national White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations group, said, "I don't think you find a lot of firms that have as many people with as much experience in the government, knowledge about how the government works and absolutely just a ton of trial experience. Jonathan was just a piece of the puzzle. We've been looking for the right piece for some time." Carney added, "A law firm can't adequately field big investigations or staff it with one or two partners. It's a good start, but you get spread out very, very quickly. You need the experience, but you also need a deep bench."

New, who had been working for the U.S. Department of Justice for nearly a decade, said he looked forward to using his expertise to represent business clients. New said he initially joined the government team because he wanted to go into public service but that he also wanted to hone his skills as an attorney and develop an expertise on the government's enforcement activities. Now armed with those skills, he said he looks forward to helping Baker Hostetler grow its white collar defense practice, according to the article.

"I've been very impressed by the lawyers that they have here in the white collar group and the litigation group in general," New said. "They are currently representing a variety of different clients in many different industries and fields across the country."
