Partner Thomas Kruse was profiled in the May 31, 2011, edition of Law360 for his role as national head of the firm’s complex commercial litigation practice. Kruse has experience trying cases in court and in arbitrations in many areas, including international commercial disputes, securities litigation, energy litigation, construction contracts, commercial arbitrations, intellectual property, technology issues and complex “mass tort” litigation.
In the interview Kruse mentioned that his most challenging lawsuit involved an oil spill of 5,000 barrels off the coast of South Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico by a large oil company client. His client, a responsible corporate citizen, worked tirelessly to remedy the environmental damage though many plaintiffs lawyers in Louisiana and Texas filed suits for individuals and businesses and sought to recover hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.
Other highlights of the interview included Kruse’ trial preparation routine, how the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas always keeps him on his toes, and how he’s learned think objectively about how appellate judges will review a trial.
