Avery S. Cohen
Avery S. Cohen brought more than three decades of business law experience to Baker Hostetler clients when he joined the firm in 1993 and he concentrates his practice in the area of corporate law.
Mr. Cohen has counseled and represented public and privately held businesses ranging in size from small companies to large corporations. He has lectured and written books and articles on subjects including corporate and securities law, legal economics, law firm quality control, and strategic planning.
Mr. Cohen is a member of the American Bar Association, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the Florida Bar Association. He was also a member of the Committee on Counsel Responsibility of the American Bar Association and was first Chairperson of the Securities Law Institute of the Greater Cleveland Bar Association. He was a member of the seven-person American Bar Association Committee which negotiated for three years with the Office of Thrift Supervision on lawyer responsibility to that supervisory agency.
Mr. Cohen served as law clerk to the Honorable Frank J. Battisti in 1962. In 1969 he was a member of the committee appointed by then Ohio Governor Gilligan to revise the Ohio securities laws.
Mr. Cohen is actively involved in the Greater Cleveland community. He is the president and a trustee of the Hattie Larlham Care Group, past president and life trustee of B'nai Jeshurun Congregation, served on the boards of both the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Cleveland Diabetes Association. He has served on several commissions of the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation. Recently he was Chairman of the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation Cemetery Preservation Commission. He is the 2003 recipient of the University Heights Ohio Citizen of the Year award.
