Barry Bretschneider’s practice is concentrated in patent infringement litigation in the district courts and before the International Trade Commission, patent reexaminations and interferences, patent prosecution, patent licensing and related transactional work, trademark litigation and prosecution.
Mr. Bretschneider represents U.S. and foreign corporations and his clients cover a wide range of industries, including electronics, semiconductors, polymers, composite materials, medical device, pharmaceutical and automotive industries, among many others.
Mr. Bretschneider is a well-known interference practitioner who has had a number of notable successes in this field before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He co-authored How to Win Interferences, published by Managing Intellectual Property.
During his years of service with the Department of the Navy, Mr. Bretschneider was attorney advisor for the Office of the General Counsel and trial counsel for the Contract Appeals Division. Before entering private practice, Mr. Bretschneider was technical advisor to the late Judge Giles S. Rich of the U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals (later the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit). Mr. Bretschneider also served as a visiting professor of law at the George Washington University National Law Center and lectures on patent enforcement and interference practice for the Osaka Institute of Technology Law Faculty in Japan.
