Carney to Address Advanced Forum on Securities Litigation

New York partner John Carney, co-leader of the firm's national White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations group, has been invited to address the American Conference Institute's "Advanced Forum on Securities Litigation," to be held May 12-13, 2009, in New York City.

In light of the subprime crisis and ensuing financial meltdown. corporate and outside counsel must be prepared to face an unprecedented wave of securities litigation in 2009 and beyond. Carney, a former Securities Fraud Chief, Assistant United States Attorney, and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Senior Counsel, will moderate the panel, "Preparing for and Responding to Emerging State and Federal Regulatory and Enforcement Initiatives." The session will address the following topics:

  • Assessing the impact of TARP on securities litigation
  • Regulation of credit default swaps and how this will affect the parties involved
  • Regulatory implications of an investment bank converting to a bank holding company
  • Potential for investigations into short selling by hedge funds
  • Impact of investigation outcomes on valuation methods
