Christy Nixon handles a variety of litigation matters and focuses her practice in the areas of white collar and corporate criminal matters, employment litigation and complex commercial litigation. Ms. Nixon has represented clients in formal and informal investigations by the SEC, FINRA and the United States Attorney’s Office and has responded to government subpoenas and document requests on behalf of corporate clients. Ms. Nixon successfully represented a client in an arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association and has helped the firm achieve favorable outcomes in a variety of employment matters, including those involving claims of sexual harassment and discrimination.
In connection with the firm’s current appointment by a federal judge as Ethical Practices Attorney for Local 14 and 14B of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Ms. Nixon currently serves as an integral part of the team enforcing the Consent Decree that requires eradication of organized crime influence and ensures fair job referral and election procedures.
Ms. Nixon is involved in the investigation conducted in connection with BakerHostetler’s role as counsel to the court-appointed trustee under SIPA in the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC. Along with this work, Ms. Nixon dedicates her time to pro bono matters, which include landlord/tenant issues.
Ms. Nixon is a member of the New York City Bar Association (Labor & Employment Law Committee), the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
While in law school, Ms. Nixon was a member of New York Law School’s Law Review and participated in the school’s Securities Arbitration Clinic where she assisted clients who lodged complaints against their brokers through the arbitration division of Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Upon graduation, Ms. Nixon was the recipient of the Murray Stockman Memorial Award for the highest average in the Law of Evidence for the day division.
