Courtni E. Thorpe

Courtni Thorpe practices in the Intellection Property area with an emphasis on trademark and copyright litigation and trademark prosecution. Ms. Thorpe has experience in federal and state trial and appellate courts, as well as before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She also assists with international trademark matters.

Ms. Thorpe has successfully handled several domain name and cybersquatting disputes before foreign and domestic arbitrators under ICANN’s Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy. She manages other e-commerce and social media issues for clients, such as take-down notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

In addition, Ms. Thorpe has served as lead associate in a wide variety of commercial and employment litigation. She has represented clients in cases involving workplace injuries and routinely handles workers’ compensation administrative cases. Her experience also includes advising clients on basic regulatory compliance issues under federal and state environmental laws. In connection with the firm’s appointment as counsel to the SIPA Trustee in the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, LLC, Ms. Thorpe is engaged in the Trustee’s investigation and efforts to recover assets.

While in law school, Ms. Thorpe’s article, “‘Has the Millennium Yet Dawned?’: A History of Attitudes Toward Pregnant Workers in America,” was published in the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law and was recently cited by the U.S. Supreme Court in AT&T v. Hulteen, 556 U.S. ___, 129 S. Ct. 1962 (2009) (Justice Ginsburg, dissent). Ms. Thorpe also served as an intern to the Honorable Karen Nelson Moore, United States Court of Appeals Judge for the Sixth Circuit, and to the Honorable James Gwin, United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Ohio.

Ms. Thorpe is a member of the the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association and the American, Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations. Ms. Thorpe serves as a Trustee of the Empowerment Center of Greater Cleveland, and enjoys volunteering at brief advice clinics hosted by the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.
