Crain's Cleveland Business: Cuyahoga's Commercial Docket a Winner So Far

Cleveland partner Terry Brennan was quoted in the November 30, 2009, Crain's Cleveland Business article, "Cuyahoga's Commercial Docket a Winner So Far."

According to the article, with a docket at the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas devoted to the cases companies bring, two local judges are helping make the county a favored venue for addressing commercial disputes. Cuyahoga is one of four counties statewide participating in the Supreme Court of Ohio's commercial docket pilot program, which is slated to run through 2012. So far, lawyers and judges say it's working according to plan.

"It's an excellent way of resolving complex business matters without the time or expense," said Brennan. "It's a very attractive option for people who have cases in Cuyahoga County." Brennan said a delivery and payment dispute he had in front of Judge John P. O'Donnell, one of two judges handling the commercial docket in Cuyahoga County, was resolved in fewer than 30 days. Cases normally take a year or more to wind through the system.
