Daniel J. Gunsett serves as Managing Partner of the firm’s Columbus office. His experience includes corporate counseling and environmental, class action and real estate litigation.
He serves as general counsel for two electric cooperatives (1985 to present and 2009 to present) and general counsel for an integrated energy cooperative (2001 to present). For a number of years preceding a consolidation of airports, he served as general counsel for a port authority which operated a major airport facility in Columbus, Ohio, and developed major real estate resources for the airport. Mr. Gunsett has been a member of the Board of Directors of Greif, Inc. (NYSE-GEF) since 1996 and served on several Board committees. He also headed the firmwide Energy and Environmental Practice Team at Baker Hostetler for many years.
Mr. Gunsett served as chief outside counsel for a multinational oil company in responding to a major chemical plant explosion in 1994; this work involved intensive emergency response, class action toxic tort litigation, significant environmental issues, wrongful death claims and OSHA investigations. He also served as class action defense counsel for another significant chemical plant explosion involving a major oil company.
Mr. Gunsett’s professional activities include membership in the Electrical Cooperative Bar Association; the American Bar Association Section of Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law; the Ohio State Bar Association Environmental Law Committee and the Columbus Bar Association Environmental and Real Estate Committees. He has been a speaker on Environmental Risks in Real Estate Transactions and was a contributing author for an environmental risks pamphlet for the Ohio Association of Realtors.
