Ellen J. Garling
Ellen J. Garling practices primarily in management labor and employment law. She has considerable experience in representing employers in state and federal court in cases involving employment discrimination, including sexual harassment, race, sex, age, disability and religious discrimination, as well as claims for wrongful discharge, breach of contract, defamation, invasion of privacy, and infliction of emotional distress.
In addition, Ms. Garling has extensive experience in counseling clients and preparing and revising employee handbooks, manuals and employment applications for compliance with federal and state laws and preservation of the employment-at-will relationship. Ms. Garling has been actively involved in giving seminars and in-service presentations to employers on compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and sexual harassment laws.
Ms. Garling has represented employers before the National Labor Relations Board, including defending unfair labor practice charges and handling representation elections. She has also represented employers in arbitration proceedings related to contract disputes and has negotiated numerous contracts with various AFL-CIO affiliated unions.
Ms. Garling is a member of the Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations and the Women Lawyers of Franklin County.
