Houston partner Susan Feigin Harris authored an article for the February 26, 2010, edition of the Houston Business Journal's special "Health Care" section, "Economy, Regulations Having Impact on Today's Health Care Industry."
According to Harris' article, which addressees what effects government reforms could have on Texas' health care system, "we should be paying close attention to these discussions to assure that Texas hospitals don't lose substantial and essential federal funding support, amidst important change."
Harris continues: "While these proposals involve the eventual coverage of all Americans, an unintended consequence might be to severely restrict and hurt the children's hospitals, most of them academic teaching and research institutions. Congress needs to be educated so that, in the midst of making significant strides in health care reform, we minimize the fallout of unintended consequences that might result—especially those involving pediatric care, research and education."
