Houston Business Journal: Legislative Changes Add Up to More Work for Labor Attorneys
Lisa Pennington, Managing Partner of the firm's Houston office, was quoted in the April 17, 2009, edition of the Houston Business Journal's "Law Magazine" in the article, "Legislative Changes Add Up to More Work for Labor Attorneys."
According to the article, with a political shift in Washington, labor lawyers are predicting several years of dramatic change to the nation's employment laws. Several key pieces of legislation, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the Arbitration Fairness Act and the Employee Free Choice Act have either been passed or are in the works, and Amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act and Family Medical Leave Act have been enacted as well, according to the article.
Labor lawyers won't have any trouble filling their time sheets in this climate, said Pennington. "We are busier than ever," Pennington said. "We are even conducting seminars with clients to go over all these changes." Pennington said the firm has added two new lawyers and a new paralegal to the employment practice group to help with the load.
