Hurlie H. Collier concentrates his practice in the area of labor and employment litigation. He is the coordinator of the Houston Labor and Employment practice and currently serves on the firm’s Policy Committee. Mr. Collier has been named a “Texas Super Lawyer” in the field of Labor & Employment Law and Employment Litigation since 2004. He has tried numerous cases in both state and federal courts.
Mr. Collier represents management in employment cases involving wrongful termination, sexual harassment, discrimination (age, race, sex and disability), wage and hour disputes and workers’ compensation retaliation. In addition, Mr. Collier has significant experience in the area of restrictive covenants and their enforceability and in litigating claims including violations of non-competition agreements, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets.
Mr. Collier has represented employers in handling arbitrations under collective bargaining agreements, conducting union avoidance training and advising clients on work stoppages, strikes and union organizational campaigns. He also has been involved with handling OSHA matters for clients in the energy and construction industries.
A frequent speaker and author, Mr. Collier’s publications include, “The Conspicuousness Requirement: Litigating and Drafting Contractual Indemnity Provisions in Texas After Dresser Industries, Inc. v. Page Petroleum, Inc.,” 35 South Texas Law Review 243. He has written and spoken on such topics as “How to Conduct Investigations Without Invading Employee Privacy,” 14th Annual Texas Conference, Personnel Law Update (March 10, 1997), “Happy Birthday, You're Fired! Identifying and Controlling Today’s Hottest Forms of Discrimination—from Age to Zenophobia,” Council on Education in Management, Personnel Law Update (October 15-16, 1997) and “Terminating Employees in Light of the FMLA and ADA: Protecting Your Business from Lawsuits and Substandard Work Performance,” Council on Education in Management (March 1998).
Mr. Collier is a member of the American, Texas and Houston Bar Associations.
