Jim Day focuses his practice in the areas of bankruptcy, financial restructuring, insolvency and debtors’ and creditors’ rights. Mr. Day has represented debtors, creditors and asset purchasers in bankruptcies and has dedicated pro bono hours to advising individual consumer debtors regarding the bankruptcy process. He is experienced in cross-border insolvency cases and currently coordinates legal proceedings and avoidance actions in multiple foreign jurisdictions in connection with the SIPA Liquidation of Bernard L. Mr. Day also has experience in mediation of intercreditor disputes involving complex valuation analysis and in advising counterparties to derivatives and securities transactions on the treatment of those contracts in bankruptcy. While in law school, Mr. Day served as Associate Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal and as an intern at the U.S. Department of Justice (Civil Division).
Prior to joining Baker Hostetler, Mr. Day served as a Visiting Professor at Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, where he taught the first Entrepreneurship and Business Planning course in one of the first MBA programs in the history of Mozambique. Prior to graduation from law school, Mr. Day served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy, where he completed tours of duty in the Middle East and South America, and as a Military Intelligence Analyst in Washington, D.C.
