WASHINGTON, DC – November 5, 2009 –Baker & Hostetler LLP announced that Jeffrey H. Paravano has been named Managing Partner of the firm's Washington, D.C., office succeeding William H. Schweitzer, who held the position for 16 years. Schweitzer will remain active in the firm and continue to represent a number of Baker Hostetler clients including Major League Baseball, The Aluminum Association and The National Association of Homebuilders.
Paravano will maintain his tax practice while managing the nearly 80-attorney office which provides advice to numerous clients including Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), Colgate-Palmolive Company, Exxon Mobil Corporation, The Carlyle Group, The E.W. Scripps Company, SPX, The Southern Company and The State Bank of India.

Paravano will become a member of the firm's Operating Group, while continuing his broad-based tax practice involving tax litigation, structuring transactions, interacting with federal policy-makers and enforcement officials, and cross-border tax planning.
"Jeff's leadership skills, integrity and energy make him ideally suited to continue the work of Bill Schweitzer and other strong lawyers who have grown our Washington, D.C., office into a solid presence in the nation's capital," said Steven Kestner, national Executive Partner of the firm.
"We're expanding in Washington, D.C., our New York office is now nearly 100 lawyers and continues to grow, and we will soon announce additional expansion plans," Kestner said. "Our financial strength, including our lack of debt, enables us to continue our measured growth strategy even in this challenging economic climate."
