John Bennett represents large and small companies in a variety of intellectual property matters. He helps clients protect, maintain, and realize the value of their intellectual property assets through litigation and litigation avoidance. Although he practices all aspects of intellectual property law—including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets and unfair competition—John’s emphasis is on patent litigation.
John tries cases and handles everything necessary to prepare to win at trial, including managing discovery and ESI, arguing claim constructions, deposing lay and expert witnesses, and arguing summary judgment.
Before practicing law, John started a software company and was the primary author of the company’s most popular product, with hundreds of thousands of downloads. Writing, troubleshooting, and maintaining the code base for that product has provided John with invaluable experience related to Windows programming and TCP/IP—experience that has helped him better understand clients’ technologies and disputed property rights.
John is a member of the Cincinnati, Ohio State, American, and Federal Circuit Bar Associations. He has been listed as a “Rising Star” in the 2010 and 2011 editions of Ohio Super Lawyers.
John is a speaker on a variety of intellectual property topics. He also coaches a local high school’s mock trial team.
