John W. Boyd has over twenty years of experience advising clients on a wide variety of employee benefits matters, including qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, welfare benefit plans and related tax and fiduciary issues. He has counseled clients serving as trustees and other fiduciary capacities. He has also advised plan sponsors in connection with ongoing plan administration and on due diligence in merger and acquisition activity.
Prior to joining Baker Hostetler, Mr. Boyd was Vice President and Senior Attorney with National City Corporation, where he supported the human resources division on employee benefits and compensation matters. He also counseled National City Bank’s institutional fiduciary business lines on ERISA, Taft-Hartley and related retirement plan, trust investment and fiduciary matters. He also provided support to retail banking units on IRA and ERISA matters.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Boyd was an associate attorney in the employee benefits practice of a large Cleveland-based regional law firm. In that capacity, he counseled public, private and not-for-profit clients on a broad range of employee benefits issues, including the establishment, administration and termination of employee benefit plans, application of law and regulations, merger and acquisition issues, fiduciary matters and retirement income tax planning.
Mr. Boyd is a member of the American, Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations. He is a member of the Steering Committee for the Cleveland Chapter of the Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB) and has previously served as its Treasurer.
