Karen Law has handled a variety of litigation matters ranging from complex commercial litigation, copyright and trademark disputes, international litigation, California warranty cases involving automobiles, misappropriation of trade secrets and debt collections. Ms. Law is also is a member of the Baker Hostetler team that serves as Counsel to the SIPA Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, working on litigation in connection with the global investigations and litigations of the largest financial fraud in recorded history.
During the course of her practice, Ms. Law has been engaged in the preparation of discovery documents, depositions, expert witness interviews, motion hearings, settlement negotiations, mediations, dispositive pleadings and development of case strategy. In connection with her representation of a company that manufactures and markets dietary supplements, Ms. Law drafted and won an opposition to a trademark registration before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board. She also has attended mediations and mandatory settlement conferences on behalf of a major automobile manufacturer resulting in the settlement of numerous Lemon Law cases.
While in law school, Ms. Law was a managing editor of the Women’s Law Journal and competed in the Jones Day 1L Moot Court competition. She was a judicial extern for the Honorable Allen J. Goodman at the Los Angeles Superior Court in the West District and worked as a research assistant for Professor Jerry Kang. Ms. Law assisted Professor Kang with several publications involving Asian American studies, implicit biases and communication technology, particularly cyberspace. In her third year at UCLA Law School, Ms. Law helped to develop and oversee the school’s first-ever Cross-Town Pro Bono Challenge with USC Law. The Challenge aimed to increase pro bono work in the legal community by encouraging rival law students to compete for the greater percentage and total number of hours in public service activities.
As a result of her community efforts throughout law school, Ms. Law was awarded the Graduate Student Association Jeffrey L. Hansen Distinguished Service Award and the Los Angeles County Bar Association Barristers Award for Outstanding Service.
