Kimberly M. Maynard

Kim Maynard focuses her practice on intellectual property and other litigation matters, as well as on trademark prosecution and enforcement.

Kim is a member of teams representing various fashion and jewelry designers and other intellectual property owners in a variety of trademark, trade dress and copyright disputes. She also represents a major New York City dance theater in a current trademark dispute. Kim is currently a member of the BakerHostetler team assisting the SIPA Trustee with the investigation and liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.

Prior to her legal career, Kim worked for the Trisha Brown Dance Company, where she was responsible for drafting grant proposals and solicitation letters, interacting with donors, maintaining the company’s information technology and organizing and running all company fundraisers, including the 35th Anniversary Gala. She also volunteered in the dance program at a state funding agency, taught ballet and modern dance and wrote critical reviews of emerging dance companies.

During law school, Kim volunteered at the American Dance Festival, was a Global Editor for the Duke Law Journal of Law and Contemporary Problems and was a member of the Duke Law Mock Trial Board, where she won an award for Best Advocate during a tournament. Additionally, Kim was co-chair of Duke Law’s Refugee Asylum Support Project and a member of the Public Interest Law Foundation board. Upon graduation, Kim was the recipient of the Award for Excellence in Taxation and Estate Planning.

Kim is actively involved with various non-profit organizations, including New York Cares, the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance and the José Limón Dance Foundation. In May 2011, Kim appeared on “The Docket,” a legal talk show that airs weekly on KUCI-FM, Orange County Public Radio, to discuss the effect of the Martha Graham copyright case on the broader dance field.

Kim is a member of the American Bar Association, as well as the Intellectual Property and Young Lawyer Sections of the New York State Bar Association.
