Kurt Gruber practices in the real estate area of law with a special concentration in the resort and leisure industry, including resort condominiums, shared ownership, hotels and motels, membership campgrounds, the exchange industry and the travel industry. Mr. Gruber is an editor and regular contributor to Baker Hostetler’s HospitalityLawg, which offers commentary and opinions on hospitality industry issues, trends, challenges and news. In addition, Mr. Gruber has a real estate and business background to assist clients with such issues as land acquisition, development, transactional matters, property management and general real estate and corporate matters.
From 2000 to 2008, Mr. Gruber served as Senior Vice President of Planning and Development and General Counsel for Island One, Inc., and Island One Resorts Management Corporation. In connection with his work in the resort and leisure industry, Mr. Gruber has actively participated in the development of shared ownership projects for the major participants in the industry, including many of the best known multinational resort corporations. He also works closely with major management and exchange service groups. He is active in ARDA and ARDA-Florida, including serving on ARDA’s Resort Management Committee, Federal Issues Committee, State Legislative Committee and ARDA’s Model Timeshare Resale Act Task Force, as well as having served as a past chair of ARDA’s General Counsel Council.
Mr. Gruber’s experience with ARDA and the major industry players has enabled him to effectively participate in the drafting and negotiation of new legislation and regulations affecting the industry in numerous jurisdictions, including the non-judicial foreclosure amendments enacted as part of Florida’s timeshare law in 2010. Mr. Gruber has also used his experience as a solid foundation for authoring articles on shared ownership, condominium and resort development. He has served as a speaker and conducted workshops on these issues, including serving as a guest lecturer at the University of Central Florida.
Mr. Gruber is a member of the American, Florida and Orange County Bar Associations.
