Lauren A. Deeb

Lauren Deeb handles various types of business litigation cases, including tax litigation, partnership disputes, internal and government investigations, securities, legal malpractice, ERISA and general contract disputes. Lauren has also handled a variety of pro bono cases ranging from a § 1983 Prisoner’s Civil Rights action to representing women seeking restraining orders due to domestic violence.

Prior to joining BakerHostetler, Lauren participated in the Trial Attorney Partnership Program (TAPP) in conjunction with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Through TAPP, Lauren gained valuable trial and oral argument experience.

Lauren has served as an attorney coach for the Constitutional Rights Foundation’s Orange County High School Mock Trial program.

Lauren is a member of the California Bar Association.

Her representative cases include:

  • Represented an international law firm in a legal malpractice action in which plaintiffs sought to recover more than $18 million in damages. The plaintiffs’ claims were dismissed in their entirety on summary judgment and costs of suit were awarded to the law firm.
  • Trial counsel for pro se inmate in a prisoner civil rights case alleging deprivation of medical care in violation of 42 U.S.C. § 1983 the 8th Amendment. Lauren was asked by the Pro Bono Panel for Central District to try the case after it had survived the summary judgment stage and was set for jury trial. Lauren tried the case to jury verdict before the Honorable James Selna of the Central District.
  • Tried civil contempt case to verdict against former CEO of pharmaceutical company client, obtaining an award of the maximum fine permissible under the California statute in Superior Court in San Diego. The Court found the former CEO guilty on all 58 counts of contempt that were charged; not only was the maximum permissible fine imposed, but the Court also issued an order finding that all $1.3 million in attorneys’ fees incurred by the Company in prosecuting the action were reasonable, and requiring the former CEO to pay those fees.
