Al Podboy, Director of Library Services, authored an article for the July 2009 edition of Law Technology News titled, "Climb Mountains: But Don't Try Without Wizards to Guide You."
Given the "ups and downs" being faced by the legal profession today, Podboy's article focuses on how law librarians, "the profession's legal information wizards," can help their firms climb these challenging new mountains and forge exciting creative paths.
According to Podboy, "the law library, whether brick and mortar, virtual, or more commonly both, is a magical realm. It is a place where attorneys discover and use resources for the art and business of law. These attorneys discover that our resources deliver value to our clients—value that is cost-effective, global, and not constrained by format or vendor boundaries."
Podboy's article goes on to "explore" the magical secrets of the law library, including:
Podboy concludes: "Retaining the library's magical spell will not be easy. The library's resources must continue to evolve. Climbing evolving resource mountains and following new information paths in a cost-effective manner requires extensive expert planning and development by professional legal information wizards. The continued magic of the modern law library will not 'just happen.' It will be planned by optimistic, forward-thinking, thoughtful, multimedia legal knowledge wizards."
