Law360: Baker Hostetler Nabs New Partner For Madoff Team

Marc Hirschfield, who recently joined the New York office as a partner in the Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Creditors' Rights Group and the Debt Finance Group, was profiled on March 18, 2009, by Law360, in the article, "Baker Hostetler Nabs New Partner For Madoff Team."

Hirschfield will work alongside Irving Picard, the New York partner who is the court-appointed trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC. Hirschfield said the chance to work on the Madoff case was what drew him to the firm, particularly since he had previously worked on a similar, though smaller, Ponzi scheme case involving a collapsed hedge fund.

Hirschfield called the Madoff matter "a once-in-a-lifetime sort of case," and said that he was interested to apply what he had learned in the earlier case to the largest Ponzi scheme in history. While the Madoff case will consume much of his time at this point, Hirschfield said he plans to bring over other business as well.

In his practice, Hirschfield has regularly represented debtors, creditors committees, debtor-in-possession lenders, secured and unsecured creditors, and acquirers of assets in both out-of-court matters and bankruptcy cases. Among other cases, he has served as debtors' counsel to Bradlees Stores Inc., a regional department store chain that went bankrupt about a decade ago, and worked on the mid-1990s bankruptcy of Rockefeller Center.
