Louis A. Colombo

Louis A. Colombo practices in the firm's Litigation Group and has worked on a wide variety of commercial cases for service, retail and manufacturing companies and banks. He also has an extensive practice in media and First Amendment matters and intellectual property cases. For over 25 years he has handled and tried defamation cases on behalf of a number of firm clients, including newspapers, magazines, and television and radio stations, among them several national media companies. Additionally, he has represented various nonmedia corporations and individuals in defamation litigation. He has presented a number of seminars on libel and related matters, and prepared a variety of papers on the subjects.

Among the media cases Mr. Colombo has been involved in have been the defense of reporters subpoenaed to testify in various proceedings and the right of public access to governmental meetings and documents. He has won major public records and public access cases in the Ohio Supreme Court. He has extensive experience in litigating extraordinary writs.

In the commercial litigation area, Mr. Colombo has handled claims ranging from insurance coverage questions to legal fee disputes, share redemptions, eligibility for prizes, labor contract issues and disputes over damaged steel shipments, among many other matters.

Mr. Colombo's intellectual property practice has included representation at trial and in appellate courts of several nationally known companies. He has extensive background in litigation involving employee restrictive covenants and unfair competition. Mr. Colombo has appeared in courts throughout the United States in connection with copyright and trademark infringement and unfair competition matters.

He has experience in a broad range of unusual types of legal proceedings, including several cases in which he has obtained and implemented ex parte restraining and seizure orders. In addition, he has been successful in prosecuting both civil and criminal proceedings against copyright and trademark infringers.
