Marburger Addresses "OnCopyright 2010" Conference

Cleveland partner David Marburger was invited to address the invitation-only Copyright Clearance Center program, "OnCopyright 2010: The Collision of Ideas," held March 10, 2010, in New York City.

The conference addressed topics and questions related to a number of copyright issues, including its value, its limits, its virtues and its future; new models for content distribution through technology innovation and the resulting disruption of the economics of entire industries; the future of ad-based media companies; new forms of artistic creativity which are pushing the edges of rights and ownership ever outward; and calls from all quarters for changes in the laws governing fair use, search and aggregation. Marburger was a panelist for the session, "LAW: Reform or Entropy?"

Marburger, who is an authority on litigating legal issues arising from the content side of the communications industry, started a controversy in media-news circles last year with his proposal to change copyright law to defend news organizations against "unfair competition" from aggregators that rewrite their content.
