Melanie S. Corcoran
Melanie S. Corcoran practices in the intellectual property area. She has over fifteen years' experience in U.S. and international trademark and copyright prosecution and enforcement.
Ms. Corcoran began working at Baker Hostetler in 1984 as a paralegal in the Intellectual Property Department. She attended the evening program of law school while she continued to work at the firm. Upon graduation from law school, she was hired as an attorney and continues to work in the Intellectual Property Department.
Ms. Corcoran provides a wide range of services for her clients, including trademark clearance, search opinions, counseling domestic and foreign, trademark prosecution, and U.S. and international Customs recordations. In addition she assists in coordinating civil, police and U.S. and foreign Customs seizures on behalf of clients in the United States and overseas. She also engages in enforcement proceedings including issuing demand letters and prosecutes inter partes proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Ms. Corcoran also is involved in copyright prosecution, protection, counseling and infringement matters. Ms. Corcoran works on intellectual property matters for a diverse clientele including an international media and communication syndicate, clients in the entertainment industry, clients in the toy and accessory business, clients in the hospitality industry, Internet and e-commerce companies, dietary supplement and nutritional substances industry, and retailers.
Ms. Corcoran is a member of the American, Ohio and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations, the International Trademark Association and the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association. She also serves as the Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.
