Michael Meuti focuses his practice on complex commercial disputes, with an emphasis on class action litigation.
Before joining Baker Hostetler, Michael practiced at two other Am Law 100 firms on both the East and West Coasts. In those positions, he gained extensive experience representing businesses as both plaintiffs and defendants in various class action and other disputes, including RICO, antitrust, UCC Article 9, False Claims Act and California Unfair Competition Law cases.
Michael also clerked at both the trial and appellate court levels in Cleveland, first for the Honorable James S. Gwin (N.D. Ohio) and next for the Honorable Karen Nelson Moore (6th Circuit).
After clerking for Judge Moore, Michael spent a year in state government as the Simon Karas Fellow in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. In that capacity, he assisted the Ohio Solicitor General in all facets of the appellate process, including evaluating cases for appeal, writing appellate briefs for the State and arguing cases—three before the Sixth Circuit and two before the Ohio Supreme Court.
Michael maintains an active appellate docket. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit recently appointed him to represent an indigent prisoner appealing the district court’s denial of his habeas corpus petition.
While in law school, Michael was a founding member of the American Constitution Society’s Stanford Law School Chapter. Since graduating, he has remained active in the organization’s San Francisco, Columbus, Washington, D.C., and Northeast Ohio chapters.
