Michael Montgomery is a member of Baker Hostetler’s Litigation Group and focuses his practice in the areas of general commercial and appellate litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Montgomery served as law clerk to both the Honorable James S. Gwin, United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the Honorable Ronald Lee Gilman, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. During his tenure as a law clerk, Mr. Montgomery assisted with the adjudication of matters involving a diverse range of legal areas, including intellectual property, employment, environmental regulation, civil rights, criminal procedure, habeas corpus, securities regulation and antitrust.
As a practicing attorney, Mr. Montgomery has represented clients in various commercial disputes, including defending clients in patent, trade secret, licensing and public utility rate disputes. He has also assisted clients in employment discrimination, consumer class action and bankruptcy litigation. Mr. Montgomery has extensive experience in criminal and civil appeals at both the state and federal levels.
Mr. Montgomery graduated in the top one percent of his class from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law. During law school, he served as Articles Editor for The Ohio State Law Journal and provided research assistance to two tenured faculty members.
Mr. Montgomery has taught legal writing and appellate advocacy at the University of Akron College of Law. He is a member of both the Cleveland Metropolitan and Federal Bar Associations.
