Natacha Carbajal

Natacha Carbajal focuses her practice in the areas of bankruptcy, financial restructuring, insolvency and debtors’ and creditors’ rights.

Ms. Carbajal is a member of the Baker Hostetler team that serves as Counsel to the SIPA Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, working on bankruptcy litigation and international insolvency issues in connection with the global investigations and litigations of the largest financial fraud in recorded history.

In addition to her work for the SIPA Trustee, Ms. Carbajal’s past and present representations include:

  • Representing clients in Chapter 15 proceedings;
  • Representing customers in SIPA Liquidation and related Chapter 11 proceedings;
  • Representing a secured creditor in negotiation of reaffirmation agreements with debtors; and
  • Representing defendants in avoidance action litigation and settlements.

Ms. Carbajal also dedicates her time to Baker Hostetler’s corporate sponsorship of inMotion, which includes pro bono representation of victims of domestic violence in contested and uncontested divorce matters and serving on the Junior Advisory Board of inMotion. She is also a member of the Baker Hostetler New York Women’s Steering Committee.

For four years prior to joining Baker Hostetler, Ms. Carbajal served as a law clerk to the Honorable Elizabeth S. Stong of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York and to the Honorable Arthur J. Gonzalez of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

Ms. Carbajal is a member of the American, New York State and Hispanic National Bar Associations. She currently serves as a Deputy Regional President for the New York Region of the Hispanic National Bar Association and has served as the HNBA’s National Mentoring Chair. In 2011, she was recognized for her dedication to the organization with the Presidential Award for Exceptional Service. She was also recognized as a 2011 “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers publications.

Ms. Carbajal serves as the Secretary to the Committee for Minorities in the Courts of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. She also serves on the Cornell University Council, is a past Co-Chair of the Cornell Latino Alumni Association and serves on the board of directors of the Fordham Law Minority Mentorship Program.
