This past year has been a successful one for clients of the firm’s nationwide antitrust practice. The team has represented certified classes of more than 16,000 dairy farmers in two cases and helped long-term client Caterpillar Inc. settle antitrust claims involving insurance policies. We’ve also defended against antitrust claims brought by an alleged class of consumers that bought high quality fretted instruments, defended a number of clients in various international price fixing cartel investigations and litigations, and defended an antitrust challenge to the $206 billion Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement. Leveraging these achievements, the antitrust team is well-positioned to launch Antitrust Advocate, a blog dedicated to enhancing the recognition of BakerHostetler’s brand and the antitrust capabilities of its attorneys in the legal community.
The firm’s antitrust practice has doubled in size nationally since 2010. With more than 40 antitrust lawyers across the firm, approximately half of which practice in the Washington, D.C., office, the team’s plan is to maintain a blog that reflects our capabilities as antitrust lawyers and thought leaders by providing the legal community with updates on current complex antitrust litigation and trade regulation issues, says Danyll Foix, editor of the Antitrust Advocate.
“The antitrust team has tried numerous antitrust and competition cases to verdict, including class action lawsuits, and has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in antitrust and competition litigation,” adds Bob Abrams, chair of BakerHostetler’s Antitrust Group and blog contributor. “Few other antitrust practices can make this claim. We have accomplished this in addition to successfully helping clients navigate the merger review process, frequently obtaining clearance of transactions without investigations.”
Several members of the antitrust practice have committed to sharing their insights on the blog, including, attorneys, Associate Carey Busen, Partner Greg Commins, Counsel Bill DeVinney, Partner Jonathan L. Lewis, Associate Erin Murdock-Park, Associate Erik Raven-Hansen, Partner Lee Simowitz, Partner Ned Searby and Counsel Judy Gechman.
