An article in the February 2012 issue of Developments, the magazine of the vacation ownership industry, explained that in the wake of the temporary closing of Simpson Bay Resort and Marina and the Villas at Simpson Bay Resort and Marina in St. Maarten, the government proposed overreaching changes to current law.
In September, the St. Maarten Timeshare Association formed a joint committee with ARDA-Caribbean, of which Hospitality Partner David Waller is a member, to offer a comprehensive and credible alternative to what the government proposed.
Since last fall, the group has met on a weekly basis to discuss and draft the legislation which will be ready for introduction this month. In the article he wrote, Keith Stephenson, director of state government affairs for ARDA, thanks the committee members for their work on the project. "We believe their efforts will result in innovative draft timeshare legislation that will serve as the new model in the Caribbean region," he said.
