Washington, D.C., Jan. 26, 2011—Baker Hostetler announced today that James N. Mastracchio has joined the firm’s Tax practice in its Washington, D.C. office. Mastracchio, who was most recently with Caplin & Drysdale, joins Baker Hostetler as Partner and Co-chair of the Firm’s nationwide Tax Controversy practice. He will also serve as coordinator of the Washington office Tax practice.
Mastracchio focuses his practice on tax controversy and litigation matters. He handles a broad range of civil tax disputes before the various examination divisions of the IRS, the IRS Office of Appeals and in federal courts. Mastracchio also represents clients facing criminal tax fraud investigations and criminal tax prosecutions. Mastracchio has handled numerous state and federal voluntary disclosures and represented taxpayers facing criminal investigation for undisclosed foreign bank accounts.
Mastracchio has been recognized by The Legal 500, one of the world’s top guides to the legal profession, as a leading lawyer in Tax Controversy. He is a frequent speaker on civil and criminal tax matters and has been extensively quoted in legal publications and in the national media. Prior to his law career, Mastracchio was a Certified Public Accountant with an international accounting firm. He received his J.D., summa cum laude, and LL.M. in Tax from New York University School of Law.
