Baker Hostetler’s Growth Continues in Washington, D.C.: Robert N. Steinwurtzel Joins Firm

Washington, DC, February 11, 2011Baker Hostetler announced today that Robert N. Steinwurtzel has joined the firm in its Washington, D.C., office. Steinwurtzel, formerly with Bingham McCutchen, joins the firm as Partner in Baker Hostetler’s Environmental practice.

Steinwurtzel focuses his practice on environmental issues with an emphasis on regulatory proceedings, compliance issues, litigation and arbitrations and mediation. He represents clients in the petroleum, oilfield, chemical, mining, non-ferrous smelting, battery manufacturing and steel industries, for whom he has handled enforcement, private party and citizen suit claims and lawsuits. He has served as common or litigation counsel for multiple parties at Superfund sites, and participates in major rulemakings before the Environmental Protection Agency and OSHA concerning the use, production or exposure to lead and other metals.

Early in his career Steinwurtzel was a Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife Services and National Parks at the Department of the Interior, where he worked on the Endangered Species Act and various land statutes. He later joined the Enforcement Division at the EPA, where he was responsible for the establishment of a national wetlands enforcement program. Steinwurtzel holds his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, where he has lectured on the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and the Clean Water Act.
