Chair of Baker Hostetler’s National Employment and Labor Group Ron Linville and Business Development Leader Dan Guttman were featured speakers at the Ohio Public Employer Labor Relations Association (OHPELRA) seminar, “Finding Solid Ground in the New Ohio Employment Environment” on November 18.
After the historic legislation to reform Ohio’s Labor Laws was overturned with a voter referendum, Baker Hostetler was called on to provide the state’s employers clarity. Ohio’s legislation reform garnered national media and political attention. With rising employment costs and struggling retirement plans in both the private and public sector spurring legislative actions, the labor negotiation environment has drastically changed. The seminar discussed these changes, focusing on the resolution of Senate Bill 5; management of negotiations, arbitrations and conciliations; future of public sector pensions; and effective labor relations.
Guttman delivered a keynote address, “So, What’s Next? The Fallout of Senate Bill 5,” and Linville headlined a panel of seasoned labor negotiators covering “Who Has the New Rule Book?” The 200 attendees included labor relations and human resources managers, as well as attorneys, in addition to statewide politicians and other leaders seeking guidance in labor relations.
