Readers of the legal industry website Above the Law named Baker Hostetler Litigation Partner David Sheehan one of 23 “Top Partners to Work For” in New York. Since 2008 Sheehan has been the chief counsel to SIPA Trustee for the liquidation of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC and Baker Hostetler bankruptcy partner Irving H. Picard.
As part of a Career Center survey, readers were asked to nominate the best partners, rating them in six different categories: expertise within practice area, quality of work given to associates, hands-on training given to associates, provision of feedback given on associates’ work, respect for associates’ schedules and professionalism with associates.
According to the survey results, Sheehan is, “without a doubt the best partner I have worked for.” In particular, “David is not only counsel to the Madoff Trustee, but he is an amazing leader, mentor and role model. He never asks his associates to work harder or put in more time than he puts in himself. His leadership skills extend from simple projects to organizing a team of hundreds of attorneys to work on thousands of cases. And he does all of this with a sense of humor and an ineffable ability to make each associate feel important and valuable to the team as a whole. There are not enough kind words for Dave Sheehan.”
The results echo sentiments noted in the May 2011 American Lawyer article “Silver Lining,” which profiled Baker Hostetler’s growth through the lens of the unprecedented Madoff liquidation proceeding. In discussing Sheehan and his pivotal role as leader of a legal team with more than 200 attorneys and professional staff working on behalf of the Trustee, Baker Hostetler Counsel Timothy Pfeifer stated, “He’s a man that inspires loyalty and hard work. We don’t want to disappoint David.”
