James Etscorn and G. Thomas Ball were profiled in the January 8, 2010 Orlando Business Journal article, "Baker Hostetler Names New Managing Partner for Orlando Office."
As of January 1, Etscorn assumed leadership of the Orlando office, as Office Managing Partner, succeeding Ball who spent 22 years as the head of office. "Our term as managing partner is supposed to be a two-year term, and after 22 years, I thought it was time for a young person to lead the firm," Ball said. Ball said he's most proud of overseeing day-to-day management, bringing in younger talent throughout his tenure, including Etscorn, and helping the firm expand its local presence.
Etscorn said his goals as managing partner include growing the office's health care, intellectual property, litigation and bankruptcy practice areas. Going forward, said Etscorn, "The main challenge is adapting to the dynamics of the economy, because clients, now more than ever, are looking for efficiency and predictability in term of costs. But I’m excited about taking it on.
