Paul E. Poirot

Paul Poirot focuses his practice on patent litigation and licensing.

Mr. Poirot has represented clients in numerous patent litigation matters in various U.S. District Courts, in appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and in Section 337 Investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). He has appeared in patent litigation venues such as the the Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of California, Eastern District of Virginia and the District of Delaware, among others. Representative matters span diverse technologies, such as semiconductors, computer software, satellite communications, lasers, image processing and weapons ballistics.

Mr. Poirot is an experienced negotiator who has concluded more than 150 patent licenses and settlement agreements for parties ranging from individual inventors to major corporations in the United States, eastern Asia, the European Union and the United Kingdom. These negotiations included limited one-way licenses, broad cross-licenses and participation in innovative patent licensing pools.

Mr. Poirot performs intellectual property due diligence reviews of major acquisitions, including the transfer and analysis of patent rights. He has counseled numerous clients on the management of patent portfolios and guided clients through the purchase and sale of patent assets.

Mr. Poirot spent two years in Tokyo as a member of the intellectual property group of a major Japanese electronics company, where he represented the company in licensing negotiations of one of the largest and most diverse patent portfolios in the world. Before entering the legal profession, Mr. Poirot worked as an engineer for National Instruments in Austin, Texas.
