Peder A. Garske
Peder A. Garske concentrates his practice in financial, commercial and international litigation. He has handled numerous trials and other proceedings in federal and state courts across the United States and in major international arbitration forums.
Mr. Garske has extensive experience representing parties in aggressively litigated cases involving complex financial and corporate governance issues, including breach of fiduciary duty, accounting, fraud, debt and securities claims. Mr. Garske also represents parties in proceedings brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other enforcement authorities.
Mr. Garske currently represents parties in the SEC investigation and related class action litigation arising out of an alleged $4.5 billion in fraudulent accounting at a major financial institution. He recently represented the plaintiff in a complex financial dispute involving the forensic tracing, valuation and ownership of more than $1 billion in assets. His recent trial successes include a defense verdict in a $22 million accounting fraud case in federal court in Kansas City, a $45 million victory defending a South American country on sovereign debt claims in federal court in the Southern District of New York, and the defeat of a multimillion-dollar corporate fraud and breach of fiduciary duty case in Virginia state court.
Mr. Garske has successfully handled a wide range of commercial and personal injury matters, including a $35 million fraud case against a major telecommunications company, $100 million insurance coverage disputes arising out of personal injury claims and a $500 million international arbitration alleging violations of international law. In addition, he has successfully defended pharmaceutical manufacturers in multistate product liability litigation involving the development of national defense strategies and world class medical and scientific experts.
Mr. Garske has extensive experience litigating cases in the areas of fraud, financial accounting, debt, securities, shareholder lawsuits, breach of contract, antitrust, price-fixing, conspiracy, director and officer liability, corporate governance, asset attachment, intellectual property, insurance coverage, product liability and other issues. He represents parties in all major international arbitration forums, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), American Arbitration Association (AAA) and International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
