Peggy A. Peterson

Peggy Peterson is a skilled communicator and strategic advisor with extensive experience in the areas of corporate governance, investigations and government policy. As Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director for the House Financial Services Committee, Ms. Peterson served in a senior staff role for The Honorable Michael G. Oxley (OH).

During Oxley's chairmanship of the Committee from 2001 through 2006, Ms. Peterson played an integral role in the formulation of policy and the promotion of major financial services legislation. She was the Committee's and the Chairman's spokesman through the bursting of the tech bubble, 9/11, and the corporate scandals that rocked the capital markets and investor confidence.

Ms. Peterson was involved in the development and passage of such major pieces of legislation as: The Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, the money laundering title of the USA Patriot Act, and the FACT Act, which gave Americans the free annual credit report. She advocated the majority's positions across a wide array of issues within the Committee's jurisdiction, which includes the areas of banking, securities, insurance, housing, and monetary policy.

During her tenure in the House of Representatives, Ms. Peterson developed a broad background in the legislation and regulation of securities, exchanges, and the capital markets. She helped to build support for the initiative to modernize the old fraction system and instead report stock prices in dollars and cents in the United States. The move narrowed the spread and saved American investors billions of dollars.

Prior to her position on the Financial Services Committee, Ms. Peterson worked as press secretary in the congressional offices of Michael G. Oxley (OH) and Tom Ridge (PA). A native Ohioan, she is a graduate of Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA.
