Phong D. Nguyen

A registered patent lawyer, Phong Nguyen focuses his practice on all aspects of intellectual property law.

Mr. Nguyen is experienced in prosecuting patents for semiconductors, medical devices, oil field equipment, polymers, automotive, mechanical, chemical, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology inventions. Additionally, he is active in PCT patent practice, patent infringement, patent prosecution appeals, patentability opinions and searches, patent validity and clearance opinions, due diligence and patent litigation.

Mr. Nguyen prosecutes trademarks in the United States and abroad, assists in trademark disputes and oppositions, conducts trademark searches and clearance and drafts availability opinions. Furthermore, he provides transactional services such as licensing, nondisclosure agreements and work-for-hire contracts.

Mr. Nguyen has performed research on molecular systematics and on nuclear proteins expression levels as an index for immediate early gene activation. He conducted his research using techniques such as electrophoresis, molecular cytogenetics, DNA hybridization, polymerase chain reaction, restriction site and fragment analysis, Western and Northern blots, antibody and immunohistochemistry and nucleic acid sequencing and alignment.

Mr. Nguyen is a former Assistant City Attorney for the City of San Antonio, where he assisted the City in protecting its intellectual property and was involved with the City’s litigation matters.

Mr. Nguyen has been appointed to the Cyberspace Law Committee of the American Bar Association for the 2008-2010 term serving as the Business Law Ambassador. He formerly served as Vice President of the Asian Education Fund (APABA-DC) and is a founding Board Member of the Vietnamese-American Bar Association of D.C. He currently serves as a Co-Chair of the Partners Forum and the Judicial Nomination Committee for APABA-DC. He is also an active participant in the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and is an active speaker in the National Youth Leadership Forum Law Section.
