Raymond L. Sutton, Jr., represents high net worth families and their privately owned companies in tax and business matters related to entity structuring, mergers and acquisitions, business continuity and succession, incentive compensation, estate planning and tax controversy. His private wealth experience includes the structuring, formation and operation of family offices and private trust companies. He serves as the Managing Partner of the Denver office and is a member of the firm’s Policy Committee, which is the governing body of Baker Hostetler.
Mr. Sutton maintains an active lecture and writing schedule on tax planning and private trust companies. He has written numerous articles in the tax field and has published two books for continuing professional education in estate planning.
Mr. Sutton is a former visiting Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Denver College of Law, Graduate Tax Program, where he taught courses in estate and gift taxation, estate planning, business planning, corporate taxation and mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Sutton is a member of the American, Colorado and Denver Bar Associations and a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He was recently named the “Denver Best Lawyers Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year” for 2011. Mr. Sutton has been recognized by Best Lawyers for more than 20 years.
