Rexford H. Stephens

Rex Stephens’ practice is focused in the areas of employment and labor matters. Mr. Stephens provides advice to employers and management on a variety of employment issues, including the evaluation of workplace policies and procedures to minimize litigation. He also defends employers in all types of discrimination and harassment lawsuits.

Mr. Stephens has trial and appellate experience in federal and state courts, including arguing successfully before the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Florida Fifth District Court of Appeal and the Florida Third District Court of Appeal. He also has handled arbitrations involving labor unions, employee terminations, employment contracts and general commercial disputes.

Mr. Stephens’ areas of emphasis include the unique issues affecting the agriculture and restaurant/hospitality industries and general issues affecting all employers, such as employment authorization/immigration, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act and background checks, Internet and e-mail policies and litigation involving employee welfare benefit plans under ERISA.

Mr. Stephens is a member of the Labor & Employment Sections of the American and Federal Bar Associations and the Florida Bar, and a member of the Labor & Employment Committee of the Orange County Bar Association.
