Richard S. Mandelson is Chair of the Denver Employment Law Practice at Baker Hostetler. He has practiced in the areas of employment and labor law, including employment litigation, representing employers for over 25 years.
Mr. Mandelson has represented some of Colorado’s largest employers in employment class actions. Mr. Mandelson also has represented numerous companies in other employment-related matters, including negotiation of employment contracts, employment-at-will litigation, wage and hour disputes, OSHA disputes, covenants not to compete, as well as civil rights litigation involving age, sex, sexual harassment, religious and race discrimination.
As an experienced trial lawyer, he has litigated civil rights cases and wrongful discharge cases in the state courts of Colorado and the United States District Courts of Colorado, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Utah. Additionally, Mr. Mandelson has argued cases in the Ninth and Tenth Circuit United States Courts of Appeals. He also has represented employers in dealing with federal administrative agencies including OSHA, MSHA, NLRB, EEOC, and the Department of Labor.
Mr. Mandelson has extensive experience in every aspect of labor relations, including union organizational campaigns, union prevention and avoidance, work stoppages and strikes, decertification of labor organizations, negotiation and administration of labor contracts and labor arbitrations. He has practiced extensively before the NLRB.
Mr. Mandelson has been named a Colorado “Super Lawyer” in Employment Law, and he has taught administrative and contract law as an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Business’s Executive MBA Program at the University of Denver.
