Shawnna Yashar focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation before district courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Federal Circuit. She has represented and advised clients in matters involving a number of different technologies, including software, electronics, mobile communications, networking, semiconductor fabrication and chemical processes. From 2010 to 2011, Shawnna served as law clerk for the Honorable S. Jay Plager of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

While attending law school in the evenings, Shawnna served as a licensing associate in the Technology Transfer Offices of the United States Naval Research Laboratory and Johns Hopkins University. As a licensing associate, Shawnna negotiated patent licenses, joint development agreements, inter-institutional agreements, sublicenses and cooperative research and development agreements in the fields of biotechnology, chemistry, electrical engineering, material science, nanotechnology and software. Shawnna also worked as a legal research consultant for the Digital Connections Council of the Committee for Economic Development, where she researched the economic impact of open source software and patent enforcement companies.
After obtaining her B.S. in chemical engineering, Shawnna worked as an engineer for a business intelligence software solutions company. She later operated her own private software consulting practice focusing upon data modeling, database design, Internet security integration and hardware stress testing.
Ms. Yashar is a member of the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the Fairfax Bar Association, Phi Alpha Delta and the Junior League of Northern Virginia. She is also an Executive Board Member of the Falls Church Community Service Council, which is a local community organization dedicated to helping its residents avoid homelessness.
