Thomas S. Campanella

Thomas S. Campanella has nearly 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, specifically with the health insurance, physician and hospital sectors.

As Vice President of Healthcare Finance and Care Management at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ohio/Medical Mutual of Ohio, Mr. Campanella was responsible for hospital and physician contracting and reimbursement; care management (Utilization Review, Case Management/Disease Management); provider credentialing and product development. He also had been responsible for the group reporting department which analyzed employer groups’ healthcare costs and utilization data in order to help them design a customized healthcare plan.

As Associate Dean of Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Chief Operating Officer of the University Osteopathic Medical Center, Mr. Campanella was responsible for five multispecialty clinical sites and 40 physicians. The clinic was a major provider of healthcare services in Southeast Ohio.

Finally, Mr. Campanella developed experience as a CPA (currently inactive) while at one of the Big Six accounting firms with clients in the corporate, not-for-profit, governmental and healthcare sectors. Mr. Campanella has also done consulting for employers in the area of healthcare benefit management, along with strategic planning for hospital, physician and managed care organizations.

As Associate Professor of Social Medicine at Ohio University, Mr. Campanella taught courses in Healthcare Finance, Healthcare Economics and Managed Care to undergraduate and graduate students as well as medical students. Mr. Campanella currently serves as the Director of the Healthcare MBA program at Baldwin-Wallace College and teaches courses in healthcare policy and law, along with other health-related courses.

Mr. Campanella has served as chairperson of the Athens Health Alliance Board of Directors and chairperson of the Consortium of Appalachian Medical Providers (an organization of safety-net providers). He has spoken on managed care issues at both regional and national conferences.
